The abbreviation TELC or The European Language Certificates stands for various language certificates offered throughout Europe. A total of ten languages can be learned through telc GmbH. In addition to German, these include Russian, Portuguese, French, English and Turkish. Learners come from a wide variety of age groups and backgrounds. The language tests are useful for communication in everyday life as well as for opening up professional and educational perspectives.

Levels of the TELC

Several levels of tests are common, which are designed according to the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages. Depending on prerequisites and objectives, the levels include A1 for beginners, A2 for the advanced learning of basic language skills and B1 for the advanced. B2 is aimed at the independent use of the German language. Expert language content is taught in C1. In C2, the mother tongue skills are trained.

Target groups of the TELC

The target groups of the TELC Test for German are students up to 10 years of age. From the age of 12, the requirements are directed at learners who want to improve their school knowledge. TELC for German is also suitable for students aiming for university entrance and for adults with certain professional specifications. All participants usually have a migration background.

Advantages of the TELC

All levels can be combined individually. Registering is uncomplicated and easy. The tests are relatively inexpensive.

The learning objectives of the test include the acquisition of language skills according to the levels offered, with a focus on opening up linguistic fields of activity in business and everyday life.

A1 + A2 Examinations

The Tests Deutsch A1, Deutsch A1 für Zuwanderer and Deutsch A1 Junioren are based on listening, writing and reading with a total examination time of 65 minutes, 70 and 40 minutes respectively. The oral examinations last a maximum of 11 minutes.

Other tests such as German A2, German A2 plus Job and German A2 School include written tests in reading, structuring, vocabulary, writing and listening with a duration of 70, 120 and 80 minutes respectively. The oral examinations usually last 15 minutes.

B1 + B2 Examinations

In the German B1 and German B2 categories, reading comprehension, the use of grammatical language modules, listening comprehension and written expression are tested within 2 hours 30 minutes. The oral exams last 15 minutes.

C1 + C2 Examinations

If levels C1 and C2 are tested, this is done in reading and listening comprehension and written expression. The duration of the exam with a break is 3 hours and 40 minutes, depending on the level. C2 is 4 hours and 10 minutes. The oral exams last about 16 to 24 minutes. In C2 an individual exam is taken.

Registration for the test can be done online via the TELC Lehrwerk website or in writing with registration forms at TELC GmbH in Frankfurt am Main or via service@telc.net.

Depending on the placement levels of the tests, examination fees range from 40 euros to a maximum of 140 euros.
